The Staufer Retreat Story
Staufer Retreat was established by Dieter Waiblinger, an entrepreneur, life coach, and philanthropist who identified the requirement for a more deliberate environment for innovation, education, and relaxation in the Washington County area.
Dieter has an impressive professional background, having worked for BMW and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Germany, as well as founding language schools in the United States. Despite his extensive experience attending corporate events, he has found that many of these events held in hotel conference rooms lack the desired level of engagement and stimulation.

Dieter discovered that the space he created for his new home in Portland's Forest Hills Park is spacious enough for him to rollerblade through. He realized that the area would be perfect for hosting intimate events such as business retreats, yoga and wellness workshops, and other small gatherings, as well as for conducting sessions with his life coaching clients. Being an entrepreneur, he couldn't resist the idea.

Honoring Our German Roots in the Rose City
Dieter Waiblinger is a descendant of the Staufer, a German dynasty that ruled in the early Middle Ages. When considering what to call his new endeavor and residence, it felt natural to lean into his heritage. Upon entering our retreat, you will be greeted by the Staufer and Waiblinger family crests.
